SDCC 2026 wrapped up this past weekend, and there was a lot to take in. Instead of trying to cover everything, here are the announcements I’m personally most excited about, and why they’ve got me hyped.
Static Is Getting a New Ongoing Series from Cody Ziglar and Diego Olortegui
DC used SDCC to confirm Static is finally getting his first ongoing series in 15 years, part of the publisher’s Next Level initiative. Cody Ziglar is writing, with Diego Olortegui on art.
I’m super excited to hear Static is getting a new series by Ziglar. I really enjoyed his run on Miles Morales: Spider-Man (still patiently waiting on an omnibus for it), so I can’t wait to see where he takes Virgil. If you haven’t read our review of DC Finest: Static – Playing with Fire, that’s a good primer before the new series lands.
Steel Returns with Morgan Hampton Writing
John Henry Irons is getting his first solo ongoing in nearly 30 years, with Morgan Hampton (Cyborg, Green Lantern Corps) writing. An artist hasn’t been announced yet.
I’ve always been a big fan of John Henry Irons and Natasha Irons, so I can’t wait to pick this one up. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying Hampton’s current run on Green Lantern Corps, so I’m confident this will be worth reading too. This is one of three DC Next Level books making my pull list this SDCC.
Vixen Finally Gets Her First Ongoing Series
DC also announced Vixen’s first-ever ongoing series, written by Stephanie Williams with art by Khary Randolph.
I’m not super familiar with Stephanie Williams’s work outside of The Dakota Incident, but I’ve been a long-time fan of Khary Randolph’s art. I’ve loved Vixen ever since I was introduced to her on Justice League Unlimited, so this is an easy addition to the pull list.
Batman and Absolute Batman Cross Paths in Batman of Two Worlds
DC announced Batman of Two Worlds, a one-shot landing on Batman Day, September 19, 2026. Matt Fraction writes the main-timeline Batman story with art by Javi Fernández, while Scott Snyder writes the Absolute Batman side with art by Nick Derington. Rather than a traditional team-up, the two Batmen investigate the same crime independently, each in their own world.
Like most of the comic reading fandom, I’ve been enjoying Absolute Batman, and Matt Fraction’s current run on Batman has been extremely good as well. So hearing that Fraction is writing part of a crossover between the two is a dream come true. I’ll admit I think it’s kind of soon for the two to be crossing paths at all, but I’m all for it and can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Jada Toys Finally Wins Me Over on Invincible
I was having my doubts about Jada’s rollout of the Invincible figures, but after what they showed at SDCC, those doubts have been put fully to bed. We’re in store for some amazing figures: Omni-Man, Atom Eve, Allen the Alien, Invincible in his original yellow, black, and blue costume (complete with a fantastic unmasked head), Emperor Thragg, and Battle Beast. The lineup will be split across waves 2 and 3. Cannot wait.

Maximum X-Men Has Me Ready to Jump Back Into the X-Line
Marvel announced Maximum X-Men, a new ongoing written by Chris Yost with art by Tony Daniel, launching December 2, 2026. The team steps up to fill the void left by the Avengers in the wake of Avengers: Armageddon, starting with a Negative Zone invasion.
I’m loving this lineup: Storm as leader, Wolverine, heavy hitters like Bishop, fan favorites like Iceman and Colossus, and Betsy Braddock as Psylocke. Plus Firestar and Justice, marking his first time on an X-team. I haven’t really followed the X-Men line much since the end of the Krakoa era, so I’m hoping this will be a solid on-ramp to dive back in.
Radiant Black Massive Edition Vol. 3 Is Coming in 2027 (and I Scored an SDCC Exclusive)
While Kyle Higgins and the Massive-Verse panel didn’t have any earth-shattering news, I was very happy to hear they’ll be releasing Volume 3 of the Radiant Black Massive Edition in 2027. I’m really looking forward to having this in hand since it will collect all of the Catalyst War.
Speaking of Radiant Black and SDCC, I was able to get my hands on one of the Radiant Black SDCC exclusive Funkos. Cannot wait to display it on my desk.
G.I. Joe #25 Debuts a New Character: Major Medusa
G.I. Joe #25 is shaping up to be one of the biggest issues of the series yet. It’s an extra-sized landmark issue from writer Joshua Williamson and artists Tom Reilly and Andrea Milana, and it finally kicks off the G.I. Joe vs. Night Force story the series has been building toward since its first mini-series, over two years ago. The main Joe team we’ve been following goes head to head with Night Force, friends turned enemies, when it hits shops and digital platforms on August 19, 2026.
Skybound also used the lead-up to this issue to reveal a new character debuting in it: Major Medusa. Anyone who’s been following the recent issues has already seen her popping up over the past few issues as one of Cobra Commander’s loyal Valkyries.
Given how things were left in issue #24, and the Jonboy Meyers incentive cover for #25, I think it’s safe to say she’ll be utilizing D.I.R.E. technology. I’m stoked to see not just a new character added to the franchise, but a new female character at that. Hoping this leads to a new Classified Series figure down the road.
