McFarlane Toys Reveals Classic 90s Static Figure

static action figure on trashcan pre order

McFarlane Toys has officially unveiled a brand-new Static action figure—and longtime Milestone fans are eating well. This release brings Virgil Hawkins back to his roots with a design inspired directly by his original 1990s comic appearance, long before the Static Shock cartoon introduced the character to a wider audience.

For collectors who grew up with the original 1993 comics run, this is the definitive Static. The figure features the segmented gold bracelets, Malcolm X–inspired cap, and the dark bluish-black suit accented with the bold white lightning bolt—an iconic look that shaped many fans’ first impression of the character. Myself, definitely included.

Static also comes equipped with a fun set of accessories:

  • A trash can, which early readers will recognize as Static’s makeshift transportation device for channeling and surfing his electromagnetic powers.
  • Two electric effect pieces that complete the figure’s classic aesthetic.

If there’s one omission, it’s the absence of the character’s signature yellow trench coat, a staple in many of his earliest appearances. Given McFarlane’s track record with variants, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a more limited or deluxe version in the future that includes it.

Still, this release is a major upgrade over the previous Static figure from McFarlane—cleaner sculpt, better colors, and far more faithful to the character’s origins. You can preorder yours now.

And if you’re interested in rediscovering how Static began, DC Finest: Static – Playing with Fire is an excellent companion read that captures the tone, personality, and energy of his earliest adventures. Now, McFarlane… can we please get a classic Icon, Rocket, and Hardware next?
